In this particular studio, we were to focus on celebrating something about ourselves. The goal was to celebrate something about ourselves. This was actually the most difficult studio by, for me. I had a very hard time coming up with something to celebrate about myself that I felt was good enough to make a finger puppet about. It sounds weird, but I don't celebrate many things about myself or find anything significant enough I wanted to create something off of. I probably sat for about an hour trying to think of something I wanted to celebrate. I finally came to the conclusion that my greatest love at this point in my life was my dog, Gigi. Although this puppet looks nothing like Gigi, I wanted to create some sort of dog and convey the word love as well. (You cannot see the ears, but each ear is a red heart.) I wasn't my happiest with this particular piece, but it ended up making me think about myself and reflect more than anything. I decided to start celebrating more about myself, and in general.
I would like to work this into my classroom, but it makes me nervous to think it took me so long to come up with an idea, maybe it would be difficult for my students. I could see this used as an extension of a literacy lesson, by students creating an animal that resembles a character in a book.

In this studio, we were asked to create a magazine cover that featured a personal photograph. The headlines were to tell some sort of story and depict the image featured. The goal was to incorporate the theme of celebrations by celebrating something from our own daily lives. I decided to focus on my hometown and my favorite city in the World, Kansas City. I also love this photo of my father and sister. My entire family, including extended family, are huge kU fans, and I decided to rebel and go to Mizzou. My sister is loyal to me and roots for the Tigers! We all have an ongoing, cheerful rival. I was sent this picture once when the Tigers and jayhawks were playing against each other.
I would love to use this studio in my classroom, but I think I would have students create it from a printed picture, and magazine cutouts. This would be more doable considering student limitations for use of the computer and my little knowledge about computer programs.

This studio also pushed us to celebrate something about ourselves. We were given almost no parameters, but celebrations had to be included. I chose to celebrate my Grandmother. She is such an influential part of my life, and anytime I get the opportunity to create something for her, I do. I decided to create a flower because my Grandmother loves to garden and her garden is absolutely beautiful. My dream is to inherit her home, and learn to garden in order to keep up her gardens throughout the property. I then added different vibrant fabrics because she wears the more adorable clothes and some of my most favorite memories with her are our seasonal shopping trips when I got to be alone with her. I ended up making it a mobile, and writing all of the words that describe her on the back in the pattern of the petals.
I would have a difficult time figuring out how to incorporate this into my classroom because I wouldn't want to seem as though I was forcing a craft upon my students. I could see myself asking students to celebrate a person in their life as a hero, in social studies, and create a piece that could represent their heroic actions.
